Overview
Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, formerly Madhya Pradesh Pashu-Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya is located at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is a government institution established as a State University in the year 2009 under the Madhya Pradesh Act with the following objectives:
To promote need based and region specific research, human resource development and appropriate technology generation for improving the rural livelihood
To impart education in different branches of veterinary and fisheries and allied sciences as the university may determine.
To provide for the advancement of learning and prosecution of research in veterinary and fisheries sciences and,
To undertake the extension of such sciences to the rural people in co-operation with the government departments concerned
The history of NDVSU dates back to July 8, 1948 when The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jabalpur was inaugurated as Central Provinces and Berar Veterinary College by Shri Jairamdas Daulatram, the then Agriculture Minister, Govt. of India. This was the oldest constituent college (Estt. 1948) of the Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur (Estt. 1964), which over the decades of its existence, has been able to make an impeccable impact on the overall development of livestock production and management through its impressive teaching, research and extension activities in basic and applied fields. After the establishment of Madhya Pradesh Pashu Chikitsha Vigyan Viswavidyalaya (renamed as Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University) the college became a constituent institution of the new Viswa Vidyalaya with effect from 3-11-2009.
NDVSU imparts education in different branches of Veterinary Science, Fisheries Management and Allied Sciences. The university has three constituent Veterinary colleges in Jabalpur, Mhow and Rewa. Other institutes it includes are Fishery College, School of Wildlife Forensic and Health and Animal Biotechnology Centre all in Jabalpur. It also has five polytechnic colleges, awarding two year Diplomas.
Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University Jabalpur is located in a huge Campus Area of 65 acres in South Civil Lines near the head post office, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The institute has good connectivity with various modes of transport. Jabalpur Railway Station is located at a distance of 2 km from the institute. Jabalpur is closer to NH7 which makes it well connected with trains to other cities and States of India. Jabalpur Airport is located at a distance of 14.5 km from the college.
NDVSU is affiliated to UGC, New Delhi. It is Approved by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and has Recognition of the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University offers Full time UG course - B.V.Sc & A.H and B.F.Sc, 2 year Diploma course in Animal Husbandry - Dip in AH, PG course - MVSc and PhD - Doctoral programs. Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University offers various schemes and scholarship and freeships to provide financial assistance to meritorious students including National Service Scheme for development of personality as well as National Talent Scholarship, Post Matric Scholarship, and University level scholarship.
Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University offers various facilities to its student that includes Library, Separate Hostels for Boys and Girls, Laboratories, Auditorium, Gym, Cafeteria, Indoor and Outdoor Sports facilities, Agricultural Research Information Service (ARIS) Cell, Clinic Complex, Instructional Livestock Farms, Learning Programs & Training, Placement Cell, Alumni Association and much more.
NDVSU Jabalpur Placement and Counselling Cell looks after the Placement-related activities of the college and assists students with Internship and placement opportunities in the sector of Veterinary and Fisheries Science. It provides timely Career guidance and Counselling sessions to the students during Campus Recruitment Drives, by preparing them for various job profiles. The Placement Cell conducts several Workshops, Seminars, Conferences, Guest Lectures and Training sessions for the benefit of the students. The Cell also provides Research Activities, Skill Development sessions, Experiential Learning Programs and Project Work for its students. Students are placed in private as well as government institutions. The university has been lately calling upon companies in the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry field to conduct Campus interviews. It provides a stipend of INR 15,000 per month during the internship.
The backbone of NDVSU is the talented team of highly qualified and vastly experienced Faculty members (Ph.D.: 116, Masters: 45, Associate Professor: 23, Assistant Professor: 107, Dean: 3, Professor: 34) who impart Education and Train students in different branches. Many of the faculty members are Ph.D. scholars while some are qualified with post graduation in the field.
