The College of Veterinary Science, originally established as “Assam Veterinary College” in 1948 at Nagaon, In 1950, the college was relocated to the premises of the Directorate of Veterinary Services, Government of Assam at Chenikuthi, Guwahati. The College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara is approved by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI), ensuring it meets national standards in veterinary education.
It is a constituent college of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), which governs its academic and administrative affairs. Initially affiliated with Guwahati University, the college became part of AAU in 1969. It is also recognized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for its academic excellence in veterinary and animal sciences. The College offers the following Academic Programmes :

Minimum Academic Score
General/OBC/UPS: CGPA ≥ 2.60/4.00 or ≥ 60% marks
SC/ST/DAC: CGPA ≥ 2.20/4.00 or ≥ 50% marks

Score in ICAR AIEEA (AIEEA-PG) is usually required; AAU also conducts CET-PG (MVSc) Aalborg University
