Kamdhenu University was established in the year 2009 under the Kamdhenu University Act, 2009 (Gujarat Act No. 9 of 2009). It was set up by the Government of Gujarat to serve as a specialized institution focusing on Veterinary, Animal, Dairy, and Fisheries Sciences.
The university's primary objective is to impart quality education, promote advanced research, and extend practical knowledge and technologies in veterinary, animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries disciplines to stakeholders across the state and country.

The university offers several undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) program has an intake capacity of 100 students. The B.Tech. in Dairy Technology course admits 64 students. The Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) program offers 40 seats.
